Transfer case cores are inexpensive and they truly are fairly like shooting fish in a barrel to rebuild. Not near as complicated as a tranny is. Snapring pliars, bearing installer set and seal remover/install set was all i needed in "specialty" tools for my 03 tahoe transfer case rebuild. Parts are like shooting fish in a barrel to become and non very expensive at all.
If the chain is peaking out of the case then thats a large no on driving more than a few feet. Y'all take to be careful with this because if the tcase locks up it tin can rip the tail of the tranny off and ruin the tranny case finer junking the transmission. Exercise the old tow past chain subsequently dark and remove the rear driveshaft if it isnt way as well far from you. Keep information technology in neutral so its "driver" will have brakes and power steering.

"transmission apparently 8k agone". Did you come across paperwork for this or that was merely thrown out at that place in chat? Maybe the trans was gone thru because of a problem but information technology turns out the transfer instance was really the problem and the owner decided to not put more money in the rig?

Haven't seen information technology yet wanted to know what I'd exist getting into. If they exercise t have paperwork for a new tranny, I'll probably pass. If the engine is skilful (6.0 right?), seems like I could become my money back anyway

I myself wouldnt pay $800 for a 6.0L with 230k on it if i were just looking for an engine BUT if there was proof the tranny was actually rebuilt and the body and interior was above boilerplate for a 02 vehicle then I would snag it up. Might be worth rebuilding the forepart terminate and tcase if rest of esky is above boilerplate condition. Proceed in mind that I tin can do all of the repairs myself. A garage would cost enough for labor and parts to non really make the $800 for the esky a very good deal. Id bet the frontend if information technology hasnt e'er been ran through needs a rebuild.
Could be a very good deal to make a daily driver but for flipping? Maybe not and then much.
